Life-Changing Care Offered to Kids at Shriners Hospitals for Children – Chicago

Since opening its doors in 1926, the Chicago Shriners Hospital has helped children with orthopedic conditions, cleft lip and palate, craniofacial anomalies, and rehabilitation needs. Located in Chicago, near the historic village of Oak Park, Shriners Hospital treats children from around the Midwest.  Our world-class medical team offers state-of-the-art medical care right in your back yard, and may have treatment options that could benefit your child.

In recent years we have seen an increased need for sports injury-related care, such as stable fractures and joint injuries. In order to meet this growing demand and to continue to grow our orthopaedic services, Shriners Hospitals for Children – Chicago welcomed Dr. Kelsey Davidson, MD, orthopedic surgeon, to the staff. Dr. Davidson specializes in sports medicine, cerebral palsy, hip dysplasia, and limb length and gait discrepancies. Millions of children participate in organized sports each year, and since their bones, tendons and muscles are still growing and developing they may have a higher risk of a sport-related injury. Whether it’s meniscal tears, ankle injuries, cartilage injuries, fractures or dislocations, our program offers a team-approach treatment plan for your child’s sports injury. Dr. Davidson joins a talented team of pediatric orthopaedic surgeons at Shriners Hospitals for Children Chicago and together they offer comprehensive care for a child’s sports’ injury.

In addition to sports-related care, our spine service is renowned.  Historically, most schools provided scoliosis (curvature of the spine) screening for students. Since this is no longer mandated in Illinois, it is imperative that parents ensure their child is screened elsewhere, as early detection can improve outcomes. Shriners Hospitals for Children Chicago not only offers scoliosis screening; we are also a pediatric rehabilitation site with an array of treatment options for children with moderate to severe scoliosis using both surgical and non-surgical methods.

Our family-centered care and team approach continues with the pediatric plastics and craniofacial team. Whether your child has a cleft lip or palate or another craniofacial anomaly, parents will see a group of specialists, all in one day, to ensure that every area of their child’s care is accounted for. This team also offers treatment for craniofacial microsomia, hemifacial microsomia, Pierre Robin syndrome, Stickler syndrome, Goldenhar syndrome, Treacher Collins syndrome, Nagar syndrome, maxillofacial skeletal deformities, pigmented and vascular lesions, hemangiomas/vascular malformations, and ear anomalies. As more physicians are looking for head shape anomalies in infants, including torticollis and flat head, our Head Shape Clinic detects and addresses these conditions as well.

Shriners Hospitals for Children – Chicago ensures that patients and families are treated as members of the team and are invited to be active participants in decision making and treatment planning.  If you know a child who could benefit from the life-changing care at Shriners Hospitals for Children – Chicago, please call 773-385-KIDS (5437) to schedule an appointment today, and visit us at for a list of additional conditions we treat, and to learn more about Shriners Hospitals.
